Addiction is a deadly and progressive illness, three-fold in nature that overrides normal functioning of the will power. It makes sweet promises of change, building of the hopes of those around it, only to have those hopes dashed again. Often It tears away at the fabric and foundation of families, creating confusion, secrecy, and shame; eventually, all are placed in acute distress in its progression. It can, however, be treated.
